This small temple in Kyoto has something special about it. Green and peaceful, it has a thick carpet of moss beneath the trees. Singing frogs live in the pond. And the gardener or gardeners must have an artistic eye for detail, because there are charming little accents like a flower placed carefully on the rim of the big bowl fountain, or the frequently changing patterns in the raked sand mounds near the gate. The sliding door of the temple was open just a crack, to allow a tantalizing glimpse of a beautiful screen within.
